OUR LEADERSHIP

In 1993, Sekhar & Tan was founded to serve the financial and corporate needs of its clients and community. The company’s founders brought with them a combined 60 years’ of experience in the tax, accounting, business management and corporate finance consultancy industries. For almost thirty years, the company has continuously evolved to meet the challenges of today’s business world, and boasts a stable of talented staff who offer a diverse range of services.

T V SEKHAR

Executive Director

Mr Sekhar is currently an Executive Director of Sekhar & Tan Tax Services Sdn Bhd. He is a Certified Public Accountant with more than 30 years' experience in taxation consulting. He was the Head of Taxation Department of Touche Ross & Co from 1989 to 1993. He has served as a member of the Malaysian Institute of Taxation's technical committee. He was also a co-founder of Sekhar & Tan.

His responsibilities in Sekhar & Tan's tax division include the review and implementation of schemes for tax-efficient restructuring of businesses, international tax planning, tax investigations, appeals and general tax consultancy for clients involved in varied industries. Besides direct taxation, Mr Sekhar also advises on specific indirect tax issues, service tax, duty drawback and appeals.

DAVID SIEW

CA(M), CPA(M), CPA(Aust.)

Managing Partner

Mr David Siew has served as Sekhar & Tan’s Managing Partner since 2009, bringing with him over forty years of experience in accountancy.

Most recently, David served as managing partner at BDO Binder—a member of the BDO International Group, one of the world’s largest audit and assurance firms—between 1999 and 2007. Alongside his accountancy practice, David’s corporate experience also includes four years as the financial director of a major public listed company in Malaysia, with a large, diversified business portfolio.

Mr Siew’s resume boasts an impressive track record and various credentials as a public accountant. He first qualified as a Certified Public Accountant with the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) in 1976, where he remains a member. Currently, he is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and CPA Australia.

David’s work has also expanded beyond his private practice and into the public sphere, where he has worked in a consultant capacity for some of Malaysia’s most important companies. He was appointed as one of several Special Administrators tasked with restructuring a number of public listed companies, under the Danaharta Act 1998. Under this project, David supported the management and eventual re-listing of a clutch of distressed companies.

David has also served as a member on a number of committees, including the Developing Nations Committee of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC); the Practice Review Committee of the MIA; and the Public Practice, Technical and Financial Statement Review Committees of MICPA. Previously he has served as a two-term member of the Financial Reporting Foundation.

DATUK MOHD SAIAN RIDZUAN

Executive Director

In 2006, Datuk Mohd Saian Ridzuan joined as the Executive Director of Sekhar & Tan, where he has continued to serve and lead for more than a decade.

He brings with him an extensive knowledge and experience base in tax audit and investigatory practises, stemming from his long stint in public service. For 36 years, Datuk Mohd Saian worked for the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) of Malaysia.

During his time at the IRB, he climbed the ranks to achieve the role as Head of Investigations, before eventually ascending to the role of the Board’s Deputy Director General in charge of Operations, Technical, Legal and Information Communication and Technology.

Amongst his many achievements is the successful planning and implementation of the Board’s Self Assessment System, for both Companies and Individual Taxpayers, which has streamlined tax collection and declarations across all sectors.

Datuk Mohd Saian is a member of The Association of Corporate And Certified Secretaries (UK).

YAU YOK SEONG

CA(M), CPA, CFP

Partner

Mr. Yau, is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). He qualified as a Certified Public Accountant with MICPA in 1998.

He had previously worked with a reputable international accounting firm for 9 years. He has more than 20 years extensive experience in audit of public listed and private companies, corporate acquisitions, investigation and restructuring exercise. He has also undertaken numerous receivership and liquidation assignments.

Mr. Yau joined Sekhar & Tan in year 2004 and currently he is an Audit Partner.
